Prospective Graduate Students

The Ocean Policy Lab is recruiting its first cohort of PhD students for Fall 2027.  We accept PhD students through the Oceans PhD Program. If you are interested in joining our team, please contact Andres de Loera and provide a brief summary of your research interests along with a CV or resume describing your relevant research experience.

Prospective PhD students should have a strong academic record, an interest in research that spans multiple disciplines, and a passion for understanding how humans interact with the ocean. Prospective students could have a background in marine ecology with enthusiasm for applying those tools to quantitative research on the human dimensions of marine ecosystems, or a background in economics with enthusiasm for learning to apply population dynamics into applied research, or any other academic background provided they are excited to broaden their horizons and apply themselves to ocean social science. The group welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and experiences and seeks to build an inclusive and supportive community.

PhD students can also be accepted through the Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment & Resources (E-IPER) PhD Program, an interdisciplinary program where students have two co-advisors from different disciplines. Students should reach out to multiple faculty affiliated with the E-IPER program.

Finally, I am open to advising students admitted to other departments, such as Environmental Social Science and Economics.

Prospective Postdoctoral Fellows

The lab is currently seeking postdoctoral researchers interested in marine resource economics. Please see the position description for more details.

Prospective Undergraduate Researchers

Undergraduate students are welcome to inquire about potential research opportunities, including summer research opportunities through various programs, including SESUR, MUIR, SUGRE, and more.
